ABOUT ME
In 2016, I left the junior management ranks of a large Government contractor to pursue my passion for financial planning.

As I began pursuing a career in the industry, I met some truly amazing people and was able to learn from some of the brightest minds in financial planning. Those experiences and the guidance I've received on my journey has led me to join Define Financial, a fee-only financial planning firm headquartered in San Diego, CA.

I joined Define Financial because, as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®), I wanted to be a part of a fee-only firm that is bound by the fiduciary standard at all times. I wanted to serve clients without the conflict of interests common in the stockbroker world, where advisors are often compensated by the products they sell (i.e. mutual funds, stock trades, insurance products, etc.). I knew my clients deserved more than just a disclosure of those variable and less-than-transparent fees.
I didn't want to merely disclose these conflicts of interest to the client, I wanted to eliminate them altogether. So I left the broker-dealer world and joined a fee-only RIA so now I'm only paid for the advice I give, not the products I recommend.

When I'm not helping people retire confidently, I'm spending time with my wife/high school sweetheart, Alli, and our two boys. I love watching football, golfing, barbecuing with friends and family, and doing home projects. I've installed artificial turf in my front and back yards, complete with a putting green, installed landscape lighting, installed recessed lighting and dimmers throughout my house, remodeled a closet, and refinished furniture to match my wife's ever-changing decorative tastes.

FAVORITES
Book

It has always been a goal of mine to read more and I have found that listening to audiobooks makes excellent use of time spent on my morning commutes. A recent audiobook I just finished was Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin. When faced with a situation that doesn't go my way, I reflect on what I can do in the future to better see the big picture, simplify my approach, and be decisive during times of uncertainty. I know this book will be on my list of top reads for a long time.

I know my way around a Chik-fil-A Spicy Chicken Deluxe, no pickles, one buffalo sauce. For what it's worth, my Chik-fil-A rewards points are approaching "Silver Status." #lifegoals

I have a huge sweet tooth and have never met a piece of chocolate cake I didn't like. For my money, the Costco All-American Chocolate Cake "takes the cake"...all 7lbs of it!

Professional: Passing the CFP exam while working 60+ hours per week outside of the financial planning industry. Once I found a job in the industry, I laughed when I looked back on some of the areas of the CFP coursework that gave me trouble (looking at you "Timing of First-Year RMDs"). I had to work so hard to memorize the most basic concepts because I had no relevant experience at the time. Needless to say, my book-smarts were quickly complemented with real, hands-on experience.
